Background Checks #SaveWomensLives
Oct 01, 2013
Today is the first day of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and 46 women will be shot to death by a current or former boyfriend or husband by the end of October.
Women in the U.S. are killed at alarming rates by intimate partners, and guns play a key role in turning domestic abuse into murder.
That's why it is so important to keep guns out of the hands of people with a history of domestic violence. We know that background checks save women's lives: in the states that require background checks for all handgun sales, there are 38% fewer women murdered by intimate partners.
If we are serious about reducing violence against women in this country, we should strengthen our gun laws and enact comprehensive background checks that will save women's lives.
